ASCENSION DAY VS PENTECOSTHere am I. Well I have beaten the book of Ruth to a pulp and thrashed it around enough already, in which we have an "hour" (midnight), and a "day" (end of barley harvest).
But, next on the agenda is Pentecost, this year for the Christian calendar May 15, and for the Jewish calendar June 14.
So to assuage my dismay on May 5 at being still here and waiting, or worse, "left behind", I would like to say a couple things about Pentecost. Here we also have a day and an hour. Jesus told the deciples to stay in Jerusalem and to await "the promise of the Father, of which I have told you about" (Acts 1), and to receive "power from on high". This "promise of the Father" may be the day of the rapture, although this remained a "mystery", this rapture day, until many years later when Paul began to describe it, so therefore Jesus had not "told them about it". So, the deciples after His ascension went to Jerusalem and gathered together in prayer and supplication. Paul told us to "not neglect to gather yourselves together, ESPECIALLY AS YOU SEE THE DAY COMING", a veiled suggestion to this feast day?
In the morning "at the third hour" (9:00 a.m.), the Holy Spirit was sent to the deciples, gathered there for that purpose.
So there is the day and the hour, for Pentecost. Our Lord told them "not to leave Jerusalem". Could that mean "Jerusalem TIME"?, to those of us at the end of the age looking for Him?
Now Rebekkah was a type of the bride of Christ. Abraham's servant was sent, and met her by the well (like the Samaritan woman, another type of bride), and went to her home to negotiate the bride price, gifts, etc., Her mother and brothers then said something wierd: "Can you let her tarry here for TEN DAYS?" Abraham's servant (type of the Holy Spirit), said no, let's just get going. Then it was decided to ask Rebekkah herself about it, and she said, "I want to go now", and "rose up" (rapture) early in the morning to go to meet Isaac between her home, and his home (in the clouds).
What are these ten days here? Could they be the ten days between our Lord's ascension and Pentecost? (the feast days were not established until later for Israel). The whole point is that she wanted to go (and the Holy Spirit wanted her to go), ten days earlier than her family (mother and brothers) wanted her to go. Her mother and brothers are a type of the "church", who would restrain Christians who want to go out and meet the bridegroom. Saying His coming is delayed, or doesn't happen until after the tribulation, or whatever. Those servants who say "My Lord delayeth His coming", who get the tongue-lashing from Jesus when He turns up "on a day when they think not, and an hour when they think not".
So the church of Smyrna has tribulation ten days, and Rebekkah wanted to get going early, before ten days, and there are ten days between the Ascension of our Lord, and Pentecost.
I can see some good reasons already why our Lord may turn up on Pentecost, and I can see many good reasons why He may turn up on Ascension Day (ten days earlier, like Rebekkah, who was "anxious" to go to meet Isaac, while her mother and brothers - church - wanted her to wait out the ten days).
Is this so today? Does the main church expect Him later? Is it the bride-to-be that is anxious to get going? The end of barley harvest just precedes the beginning of wheat harvest, by some ten days. Do Rebekkah's mother and brothers represent the wheat? Who say, My Lord delayeth His coming?
I will think on these things further......
Blessings to all,,,,,,,,,Arlene
