Boy, 5, charged over toy theftA judge has caused outrage in Argentina by agreeing to hear a case against a five-year-old boy accused of stealing a classmate's toy.
The boy allegedly stole the Max Steel doll from another pupil and refused to return it unless he paid him some money.
The victim's mother, a police officer, took the case to a court in Buenos Aires and Judge Enrique Velazquez agreed to hear it.
Now, the boy could be called in for interrogation and staff at his school could be forced to give evidence as witnesses.
The boy is officially under the age of criminality but the judge had discretion to hear cases put to him by complainants.
The case has provoked controversy with rival judges and lawyers condemning Judge Velazquez's decision.
Judge Marta Pascual told Clarin newspaper: "It is a total nonsense to incriminate this little boy, five-year-olds can't tell right from wrong."
