"Re: John Ford's post"

John Ford's post is a perversion of history and also shows a misunderstanding of the Bible.

America is not perfect, but in the 20th century twice saved the world from fascist enslavement, and once from communist enslavement, at the cost of many lives and billions of dollars, then built up our former enemies at U.S. taxpayer expense, then unselfishly gained no territory in the process, when we could have annexed much of the world at the apex of our power.  With all our faults, America has been the major force to keep the world free from cruel despotism.  That is one reason why the Islamofascists hate us -- they are killing to promote Islamic despotism, ruled by the crazy Islamic clerics, plus they hate us as Christians.  If they could, they would chop off all our heads.  Would John stand by and watch that happen to his own family?

But worse, they are soon coming at the West with WMDs, where the lives of millions are in jeopardy.

As to the Bible, in it God provides for force to keep order and to protect the innocent.  See Romans 13, which alludes to the police and the military.  Also, any serious Bible student should know that the commandment not to "kill" really refers to "murder," not civil protection.  In fact, the Law of Moses calls for capital punishment in some instances, and God cannot contradict Himself.

Also, Jesus, John the Baptist, and Peter interacted with soldiers and never once did they tell them to change professions or lay down their arms.  "Then some soldiers asked him (John the Baptist), 'And what should we do?'  He replied, 'Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay'” (Luke 3:14, NIV).  John did not say, "Lay down your arms and get a civilian profession."

To a soldier, Jesus said that he had not seen so great a faith in all Israel.  Jesus did not tell him to get a new profession, but accepted who he was.

In Acts, a soldier (Cornelius) was the first gentile convert.  Peter did not tell him to get a new profession, but accepted who he was.
