""Lyrics" for a dying America"

Doves:

In the following song, just substitute "America" for "Desperado".  We
have been left "ALONE" in the world...and WE ARE STILL trying to
find the "REASONS" people don't like us.  The song warns that we had
better find them....BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!  The problem is, THERE
IS NO "PROPHETIC" VOICE amongst our "so-called" prophets.  All of
our prophets have gone "soft".  The word "judgment" has been all but
purged from their lips lest they "offend".  Truly we are ALONE on an ocean
without a rudder or a "leader" to guide us home.  We, thus, make a prime
target for the enemy.

   Jeremiah 23
17 They keep saying to those who despise me,
'The LORD says: You will have peace.'
And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts
they say, 'No harm will come to you.'
18 But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD
to see or to hear his word?
Who has listened and heard his word?

   Ezekiel 21
31 I will pour out my wrath upon you
   and breathe out my fiery anger against you;
I will hand you over to brutal men,
   men skilled in destruction.
32 You will be fuel for the fire,
your blood will be shed in your land,
   you will be remembered no more;
for I the LORD have spoken.' "

Desperado Lyrics

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late
