Watch the waxing crescent Moon pass Venus, Mars, and
Saturn as it moves across Gemini from night to night. (This
scene is drawn for the middle of North America. European
observers: move each Moon symbol a quarter of the way
toward the one for the previous date.) Sky & Telescope diagram.

Friday, May 21
Venus shines to the lower right of the crescent Moon at dusk,
as shown here. Look for Saturn and Mars to the Moon's upper
left, and Pollux and Castor above them. Very high above Pollux
and Castor this week, use binoculars to look for the fading Comet
NEAT (see "Comet Update" below).

Jupiter's Great Red Spot should cross Jupiter's central meridian
(the imaginary line down the center of the planet's disk from pole
to pole) around 10:27 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The "red" spot
is currently pale orange-tan. It should be visible for at least 50
minutes before and after in a good 4-inch telescope if the atmospheric
seeing is sharp and steady. (For the times of all transits visible
worldwide, use our Red Spot transit predictor, or print out the list
of all Red Spot transits for the rest of 2004 at the end of that page.)

Saturday, May 22
Look below the crescent Moon this evening for Saturn and, to its
right, fainter Mars. The two planets are only 2° apart. Look too for
3rd-magnitude Epsilon Geminorum less than 1° to Mars's upper right.

For observers in the tropics and Southern Hemisphere, Comet
LINEAR is only 3° south of Sirius at dusk. Think photo opportunity!

Sunday, May 23
The Moon this evening is nearly in line with Pollux and Castor to
its right.

Jupiter's Red Spot transits around 12:05 a.m. Monday morning
Eastern Daylight Time.

NOTE:

12:05 is an interesting number.  It "ALSO" is the "RAPTURE" in
Revelation 12:05!!!!!

   Revelation 12
5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with
an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
