"Clear, straightforward teaching on 2nd Thess. 2:3--post by Andrew B"

Hello, John and Doves,
Andrew B, that was clear, straightforward teaching on 2nd Thess. 2:3!

"Reply to Chondra M., Mar. 4th"

To Chondra, my New Century Version (NCV) renders 2nd Thess. 2:3 as:--- Do not let anyone fool you in any way. That day of the Lord will not come until the turning away (or the rebellion) from God happens and the Man of Evil (or Man of Sin), who is on his way to hell, appears.

My understanding of this text is that the people have fallen from God, and this is why the Man of Evil is permitted, or allowed, or enabled to appear.

For example, if someone has a messy house, then ants, flies, spiders, cockroaches, mice and eventually rats will infest that house. Similarly, if a country (or even the world, as is the ultimate understanding of the text) is apostate and immoral (ie. fallen from Godly living), then un-Godly people will eventually lead them.

The way I read the whole text (2nd Thess. 2:1-12), is the Restrainer (v7 RSV) is taken out of the way (a euphemism of the Holy Spirit and the Body of Christ taken out of harm’s way in the First Rapture), then the Man of Evil (v8a) is revealed, then the Day of the Lord (v3a & v8b) occurs, which is when the Lord lifts the Main Harvest Second Rapture group off the planet, so He can cleanse the world of all evil, and prepare it for re-creation.

Back to the messy house example. Many years ago, I took in two stray cats, and cared for them. Unfortunately, they brought a flea infestation into my house. I tried different methods, over a number of months to deal with the problem, but to no avail. Eventually, I had to declare “full and open warfare” against the fleas. So I bought a number of flea bombs. The main caution in the instructions, is that all pets and humans have to be out of the house for the 2-3 hours of the flea bomb’s activation. When we came back, every flea, every other bug and every spider was dead; and we had a cleansed house again; and we could live in peace.

It’s similar with the Day of the Lord. The loved ones of the Lord are removed from the “house” (world), so that the unrepentant wicked enemies of the Lord can be dealt with (see Rev. 19:11-21); and then the “house” (world) is cleansed and ready for recon, refit and repopulation.

But before that time of cleansing (the Day of the Lord), the immorality and unbelief will get worse and worse, until the morality has reached rock-bottom, and you get the most-immoral, and most un-Godly leader ruling them. This can happen in a country, but it can also happen to the whole world, which is the reference concerning end-times prophecy.

The anti-Christ of Revelation is eventually in charge of the whole world, but he had to start somewhere. A person doesn’t leave school at (say) 18  years of age, and then rule the world at 20. Even the anti-Christ would have had to move up the ranks over time, prove himself to the heavies, and then get the job.

As the saying goes, “the people get the leader they deserve.” And this reminds me of some Bible texts.

Proverbs, chapter 29 says in the Revised Standard Version (RSV):---

He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck will suddenly be broken beyond healing. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan. (v1-2)

If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. (v12)

When the wicked are in authority, transgression increases; (v16a)

Where there is no prophecy the people cast off restraint, (v18a)

Are these texts prophetic, or what? We can see these texts evident in the halls of power of our countries today.

Regarding searching out the truth of a Biblical matter, you have done the wise thing and asked for many different views on the query. In my searchings, I have collated pieces of evidence over years to form an ever-more-revealed picture. Therefore, I say that sometimes, a person may have to wait on the Lord for full clarification and revelation.

As the prophet wrote in Isaiah 40:31 (RSV):---

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

My prayer is that you walk, then run and then fly......into the arms of Jesus, and into the heart of Abba God.
