Several people have alleged that because Pope Francis wears a ring with Peter's image on it, that "proves" that he is PETRUS ROMANUS. There's one problem with that logic. This ring has been worn by EVERY POPE since it was made. It therefore gives no more proof that Francis is PETRUS ROMANUS than it would that Benedict is PETRUS ROMANUS or that whoever will succeed Francis is PETRUS ROMANUS.
Yes, the Catholic Churches teahes that Peter was the first pope, and that all succeeding popes have inherited his office from him. But that does not prove that our current pope is the PETRUS ROMANUS that Malachy talked about. It just amazes me that so many people don't catch the inherent contradiction in what they are teaching and how by promoting the validity of Malachy, they are really making an argument in favor of all of us converting to Catholicism.
