Here's my humble take on all of this:

To answer your question, there has never been peace, and there never will be peace (just a false sense of it, which has already happend...) until Jesus Christ establishes His kingdom on earth will there be true peace on it. We as followers of Christ have the true peace that his Holy Spirit has placed on us as a fruit. Having said that, then what exactly does it mean when peace is taken away?, I think it means exactly what has been happening, with all these earthquakes, natural disasters, civil unrest, economic melt down, terrorism, violence, etc... "Peace" has been taken away from the earth (remember, according the the 4th seal only 1/4 of the earth is affected by the seals effects to the point of people actually dying, which I think is gradual and not all in one instant...). The bible is very clear on this and we should take it as literal as possibly suggested... Lets see what the Apostle Paul says about this:

1 Thes. 5:3

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."


"For WHEN THEY SHALL SAY" saying it and actually having it are 2 very different things, the UN and many nations including the USA (Hilary Clinton, Obama have blotted it out of their mouths many times) have been talking about (Saying) "peace & safety" and has become the motto of all these world politicians, they've been saying it and speaking literately we see the Word of God coming to pass, "for when they shall say, Peace and Safety; then SUDDEN DESTRUCTION COMETH UPON THEM", sudden destruction has come upon the earth, or its preparing to come in reference to the Day of the Lord (with a world earthquake on the 6th seal)... lets see: Chile quake, Haiti Quake, Christchurch Quake, Mexicali Quake, Japan Quake, Nashville floods, Australia floods, Iceland Volcano, Gulf oil spill, massive animal deaths, I could keep going and going with just the last 1 1/4 years, sure seems like sudden destruction in some places and also about to come to the whole earth in one instant or at once (world earthquake which will be like giving birth concluding with the rapture and the beginning of the worst part which is the wrath of God) and Paul even compares it to birth pains (Which Jesus also mentioned)... Surely the birth pains are here and the delivery soon to follow...

THE SEALS BEING OPEN ARE NOT LIMITED TO A TIME FRAME, Although I'm pretty sure scholars and some escathologists have suggested the seals, trumpets and vials are all limited to a 7 year duration, there is really no clear evidence that this is the case for the seals. Therefore I dare to say that the seals might be open and with time they will become more and more powerful and evident on this earth and just about the time when they are to become completely evident to the naked eye, it will be too late because the secret rapture would of taken place and it be too late for many.

Anyways, that's my take on it. In the end, the Will of the Writer be done. Lets see how it all pans out. It's exciting!
