Donna Danna, I beheld the same apparent astronomical discrepancy the
other morning.
My own explanation to myself, was that the moon has a slanted orbit with
respect to level ground--here in San Diego.
As a result, the Moon is in the sky far longer than just 12 hours. I
believe you were observing the late setting of the Moon, as I was.
