John and Doves,
Thank you Jan Mikael for sharing Habakkuk 2: 5 --7 with us.

The KJV verses are not as explanatory as the NIV in this regard. Here are some other versions of that verse.

From Jan's message yesterday ( 29th ) : ( my insertions in red )
"Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own--for how long? --and loads himself with pledges!" ( credit )Will not your debtors ( banks etc. ) suddenly arise, and those awake who will make you tremble?
Then you will be booty for them. " Habakkuk 2:5
This is what Our Lord says about living to the max ( excess ) in these Last Days ....
Luke 21: 34
"And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting ( excess ) , and drunkenness ( saturated ) and cares of this life , and so that day come upon you unawares. "

If one has used one's credit cards indiscriminately ( paying large interest rates, never paying off the balance in a short time ), then one is vulnerable to the System.
This of course is not referring to one's mortgage ( hopefully it is low ), but to monthly expenditures which are beyond one's wages, and consume most of one's earnings.
In 1977, when we got Born Again , we cut up our credit cards and do not use them at all.
As the Bible says, "Owe no man anything except the debt of charity ". Romans 13:8
Being out of debt --and staying out of debt -- are essential in these Last Days. And one can sleep better at night .
In Him,
