"to Rene / socialized medicine & medical charges"
I don't have all the answers for our medical system
in this country, but when looking at medical charges, you have to
consider where the money goes.
I work in a hospital lab
and I know that there are often complaints about the charges for lab
tests. When the hospital charges you for a procedure, remember
that these charges help pay for a lot of people behind the
scenes. For example, the wages of secretaries, janitors,
maintenance people, security personnel, accountants, and
administration managers.
In lab & radiology, there are
very complex instruments that use expensive reagents, lots of
electricity, and need maintenance repair contracts.
Many
people that come to the hospital, don't have insurance so the hospital
actually "goes into the red" when they treat them. I realize that
the charges can be overwhelming, but most hospitals and physicians will
not cause you grief if you try to pay over a period of time. I
have even had hospitals reduce charges when they realized that I just
didn't have the money.
A physician's charges might buy him
a nice car, but they also have to cover all his office expenses,
including nurse and secretary wages, rent, utilities (and insurance).
I
am not writing this to offend you, but I just wanted you to look at the
medical community, even the physicians, with a little more mercy.
They could all benefit from our prayers. Most of them have difficult
jobs.
By the time I graduated from college, I really
disliked my university. A visiting pastor preached on having
unforgiveness against an institution, and I realized that I was
guilty. I know that our medical system is easy to hate, but if
the government starts to micro-manage it, the system might become much
worse.
I'm looking forward to the time when all the hospitals can shut their doors! Come Quickly, Lord Jesus.
