"Re: Three days and three nights ...."

Dear Sister Shanthini,

The Bible does not say that Jesus died on a Friday, only that he died
before a Sabbath. The well known weekly Sabbath starts on Friday
evening, however there are also annual Sabbaths that may occur on other
days of the week - the KJV refers to annual Sabbaths (Exodus 12:16 -
Passover) and weekly Sabbaths (Lev. 23:3) as a "holy convocation". The
annual Sabbaths are also known as "high" Sabbaths.

1. Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday - before the annual Passover
Sabbath (Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, John 19:31 - it was a high Sabbath or
annual Sabbath i.e. Passover) and was buried before sunset.

2. Passover was the annual (high) Sabbath that started on Wednesday
sunset- Thursday sunset. The women had visited the closed tomb before
Wednesday sunset and started preparing some spices and ointments for
embalming but at Wednesday sunset rested for the annual high Sabbath
(Luke 23:56)

3. Thursday sunset - Friday sunset was a normal weekday. The women
disciples purchased more spices to embalm Jesus' body on that day (Mar.
16:1 - Friday daytime). They could not embalm the body then, because of
the Roman soldiers guarding the tomb for 3 days and 3 nights (Mat.
27:63-66). The Temple authorities were concerned about the body being
stolen during the night so the guards must have still been there for
Saturday evening - so only on Sunday morning would they have allowed
anyone to visit the tomb inside because if the body was still there then
that would have disproved the 3 days and 3 nights prophecy.

4. Friday sunset - Saturday sunset was the weekly Sabbath. The disciples
rested again on that weekly Sabbath.

5. Jesus must have been resurrected after Saturday sunset. The soldiers
were still guarding the tomb for the evening, but were scared off when
they saw the two angels.

6. The two Marys visited the tomb early on Sunday morning, with the
spices to embalm, because the Roman soldiers would have only allowed
them into the tomb after the 3 days and 3 nights were completed,  to
find that He was not there (Mat. 28:1, Mar. 16:2 - Sunday daytime)

Note that scripture verse after verse is not necessarily in
chronological order, it is here a little and there a little - words
written not always in a clear sequence but with "stammering lips"
(Isaiah 28:10-11) - not always sequential - ask the Holy Spirit and read
the KJV scriptures and you will understand the time sequence.

in Jesus' Name,
Lester
