In Paul and Revelation, the idea but not the name of Antichrist is found; yet the conception differs from that of John. For Paul teaches that Antichrist will be an invividual man of the very worst character, instigated by the devil to try to palm himself off as God: 2 Th 2:3-10. The author of the Apocalypse discovers the power of Antichrist in the sway of imperial Rome, and his person in the Emperor Nero, soon to return from the dead: Rev 13 and 17.

Dear Doves,
With all the recent posts, I have read so many interpretations of Daniel 9 & 11, and the end times this past week or two, my head is spinning--again! Even well-known pastors I enjoy disagree in part, and I have spent DAYS dissecting scripture. In addition to that several sites posted this week have really been depressing to me to the point of tears. Why? Because if there is a small elite "first train-out" rapture group, I certainly won't be deemed worthy, and I SO desire to be with my Lord! I am nobody special, just a sinner saved by grace. My robe got stained, and had to be washed in His blood, just like everybody else. But, God's judgments are ALWAYS just, and I trust His decisions.
I am firm in my feelings that if some New World Order Antichrist or some Islamic fanatic starts slaughtering left-behind Christians, I plan to stand up and take whatever they dish out. I will not bend, nor wavier. I will take no mark. It will be scary, but I've been there, done that before--facing death. In fact, I feel like Esther boldly approaching the King's Banquet..."If I perish, I perish!" God has proven to me that He that is in me, is MUCH greater than he that is in the world. If I faced a machete or a gun, I would go towards it singing hymns. How can anyone threaten me by telling me they're gonna send me to Jesus in the next 10 seconds??? I'd just say, "Make my day!" Personally, I prefer to concentrate on Jesus' promises of hope. After all, it's HIS righteousness and sacrifice that matters. When I'm weak; He's strong! Personally, I hope that Nero and false 1st century heretics were the "antichrists." Baptism is suppossed to be our "dying to self," to follow Jesus, and if antichrist is Jesus' adversary--didn't Jesus defeat Him at the cross? The thought did cross my mind-- after all the myriad of personal intrepretations--what if we--like the Pharisees didn't recognize the second advent because we expected someone else first? We can't afford to be in error! Just something to think about...
May we fix our hearts and minds on looking for the glorious appearing of the author and finisher of our faith!!! He's the One who knew us, chose us, and called us from before the foundation of the world. In life we have many tribulations and heartaches, but in Him we have the promise of eternal life!!!
Oh, a belated thanks for those of you who answered my post with many questions! Esther, I especially enjoyed your answer! Sorry for being late to respond, but I got a bad case of the flu and was even unable to go to the funeral of a young man I helped raise 30 years ago. It's been a tough couple of weeks. Peggy, glad you're safe! And I appreciate the opportunitity to pray for each of the prayer requests. He is faithful and all sufficient! And Pastor Riley, thanks always--you are our steady rudder in stormy seas!
God Bless all,
Kay
