Further Info:
CARA--the PRO-LIFE Comprehensive
Abortion Reform Act- got a new "routing number" as it passed the Fed State committee
today.
Now called "House substitute for Senate Bill 389", the
bill passed committe 13-7 and the next move will be an attempt to pass it
in the full house and senate.
The bill passed committee with a friendly
amendment expertly explained by CARA author Lance Kinzer that:
1) made
some minor technical corrections and
2) added a provision to give
late-term pregnant women information 30 minutes prior to abortion about FREE
perinatal Hospice (like Alexandra's House) and medical resources when the
abortioni st gives his determination that the fetus is not viable. (This can
lead women shocked by "bad" {or erroneous) fetal diagnosis to seek second
opinion and not to abort)
CARA will most likely be debated Friday on the Kansas House floor.
Please encourage every
lawmaker to vote for CARA without
amendments.
Also,
in committee Tuesday, pro abortion members
unsuccessfully tried to "gut" CARA, and replace it with HB 2615, a
short bill addressing KDHE late-term abortion
reporting.
CARA didn't get replaced with, but HB 2615 is still alive.
Staunchly pro-abortion Rep. Ann Mah claimed that the
Governor and ProKanDo (Tiller's Political Action Committee) supported HB 2615,
which shows HB 2615 would be deficient in rectifying enforcement of our state
late-term aborti on ban.
Interestingly, Gov Sebelius vetoed a similar
proviso toward KDHE last year --when Tiller looked strong and the fix was in
from Morrison. Now that things are looking less rosy for Tiller, Sebelius wants
to accept a change in KDHE protocol, which
Tiller would likely use as a defense for a plea bargain.
Please support CARA (now
called House sub/ SB 389) and do not support HB 2615.
Thank
you.
