"Drugs in drinking water"
Dear friends:
Previously I have mentioned that we are a "drugged" culture, with the pharmaceutical industry trying to get every citizen hooked on their chemical drugs from the cradle to the grave.
This is having an unexpected and horrible consequence. Mainly through body waste, these chemicals are pervasively finding their way into our drinking water. Cities and water companies do not even test for them, nor do their purification processes remove them. I believe that is true for many toxic substances. And I do not believe that typical home filters remove them.
See this new Associated Press article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080309/ap_on_re_us/pharmawater_i
EXCERPT:
A vast array of pharmaceuticals including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.
To be sure, the concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose. Also, utilities insist their water is safe.
But the presence of so many prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health.

I do not know the answer. Distilled water would help but I do not believe total dependence on distilled water is healthy either. Let us remain open on this one.
