"Clinging to the cross with
only one hand?"
There is an old saying.
Nothing in my hand I bring.
Only to the cross I cling.
That is what God wants us to continue to do, not just
once.
The problem is that many of us only cling with one hand.
We have something else in our other hand that we refuse
to let go of.
The result is a one armed or one handed hug.
A one handed hug may show affection, but if you really
love some one you will wrap both your arms around them.
Nothing worse then a half hearted hug.
What can one do with a divided heart?
The separation begins.
It won't stop until we give up and let go of what our
other hand clings to.
Anything that prevents us from giving God everything
is an idol.
An idol can be a material thing or an emotion.
People and things we are involved in that keep us from
clinging are idols.
Not forgiving, anger, control, worry, fear, pride, stubborness
are spiritual strongholds, idols.
When we give up the things that prevent us from really
loving him we can hug him with both arms.
It might be painful and require the help of others to
intercede, but it needs to be done. So through out our life Jesus will
show us things that cause us to distance ourselves.
He asks us to give them up.
Like lots wife, we can not afford to look back, we have
to let go.
