I heard the word "contraction" twice today while the financial talking heads were panicking.
 
1. Today: ``Bernanke believes the economy is in a very serious situation right now,'' said Paul Kasriel, director of economic research at Northern Trust Co. in Chicago. ``The Fed is worried about a very severe credit contraction that can cause an even weaker economy.''

 
2. On CNBC this morning they were talking about "Retail contracting".
 
 
BIRTH PANGS increase in frequency and intensity towards the end, right before birth (this is for the men). The last thing is a contracting and then the baby comes.
