The
Secret behind ‘The Secret’ ©
There is currently a book & DVD video being spread
about the world titled The Secret. The first time I saw it I knew
that it was destined to go ‘big time’. It is a super slick presentation
that supposedly teaches you how to have everything you’ve ever wanted:
riches, fame, happiness, the love of your life,
you name it and it is possible. The Universe is waiting to fulfill your
every command. How come you never heard of this before? Well, the rich
and successful have been hording this secret for years but now a group of
gracious teachers is making The Secret available to all mankind.
For those of you who are dedicated Christians and
those of you who like your truth ‘straight up’, there is a secret behind
the The Secret that should disturb you. You see, The Secret is
just the old occult that has shown up in 2006 wearing a nice tuxedo,
bearing a bouquet flowers, and smelling of fine cologne! What is so dangerous
about this presentation is that it is spreading like wildfire. It has been
mentioned on Larry King, the Ellen Degeneres
Show, and two hours
of the Oprah Show have been dedicated to it in the last couple of weeks.
What follows is an analysis (by no means exhaustive)
of the presentation titled The Secret.
1. THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
We are told that real ‘secret’ is The Law of Attraction.
This is supposed to be strongest Natural Law in the Universe. This
law says that like attracts like, that is, positive attracts positive, and
negative attracts negative. If you do a search for this Law of Attraction
you will find all kinds of references to it on metaphysical websites and
wealth & happiness websites, and an occasional mention on occult websites,
but you won’t find this law connected with any science or physics websites.
During the presentation of The Secret we are
told that the Law of Attraction is based in quantum physics.
The truth is that the only law of attraction in science says that opposites
attract.
You surely remember from your high school science
class that when you put two magnets together they attract + pole to – pole
and that like poles (+ to + or – to -) repel each other. This is a scientific
principle (law) that can be consistently demonstrated. This then, is the
exact opposite of the Law of Attraction of The
Secret. These teachers also tell us that everything in the Universe
is one energy, including your body. How
can there be two opposing laws of attraction in the Universe then? There
can’t be. In other words … the Law of Attraction is a lie!

2. ESTER HICKS AND THE DOCTRINE OF DEVILS
Another of the teachers of The Secret is Ester
Hicks and she speaks with great authority. Does this authority come from
‘on high’? Hardly. Ester claims (on her website) that her wisdom comes
from spirits that she channels. The wisdom from several different spirits
she collectively calls ‘The teachings of Abraham’. If you have any love for the word of God, the Bible,
then you should take heed of the following:
[31] Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither
seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
[6] And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits,
and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against
that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
[27] A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that
is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones:
their blood shall be upon them.
[13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the
LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for
asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;
[1] Now the (Holy) Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times
some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits,
and doctrines of devils;
In addition to channeling spirits, Ester made the
following statements in the original version of The Secret:
At 1:16:40
(original version) “You are eternal beings”.
“You are God force”. “You are that which you call God”.
I don’t think I need to explain the implications of
these statements to anyone who is familiar with the Bible. I would like
to know why Ester was completely eliminated from one version of The Secret.
Perhaps, on second thought, her very obvious connection to the occult
comes too close to ‘letting the cat out of the bag’ and the producers of
The Secret are going to save that for a follow-up presentation (it’s
in the works).
Ester has written her own book about the Law of
Attraction, which I have already covered but this should give you an
idea of where that law comes from.
3. EITHER LISA OR THE BIBLE IS LYING
In the newer version of The Secret teacher
Lisa Nichols says at 1:17:58
into the presentation: “You are God manifested in human form”. The Bible
says:
[10] Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do
we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant
of our fathers?
[29] And Jesus answered him, The
first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
[32] And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the
truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he
1Tim.2
[5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the
man Christ Jesus;
You need to make a decision whether you believe the
teachers of The Secret or the Bible.
4.
GOOD NEWS - JUDGMENT DAY IS CANCELED ! ! !
Author Neale Donald Walsch tells us in The Secret:
“No one will stand in judgment of it (your life) now or ever”. I’m
not sure where he got the authority to cancel judgment day but this is comforting
news unless you believe the Bible:
[27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
judgment
[1] I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who
shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
5. THE POWER WITHIN YOU
Another teacher, Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith, tells
the viewer “This power within you that is greater than the world”. This
is an interesting statement in that it is in contradiction to an earlier
teaching in The Secret that says you are the same energy
as all the rest of the Universe. You can’t have it both ways. There appears
to be a difference of opinion among the masters.
More importantly, the above statement
is a slight perversion of the Bible:
1John.4
[4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because
greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world
The bible verse above refers to the Holy Spirit in
believers being greater than Satan/The Devil/Beelzebub that is in the world.
This is probably not what the Rev. Beckwith is talking about though, because
we are told in The Secret that there is only good in the Universe.
[8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour
6. THE BLAVATSKY CONNECTION
Helena P. Blavatsky (1831-1891) is
considered by many to be the ‘Mother’ of the New Age movement. Her
reputed psychic abilities included levitation,
clairvoyance,
out-of-body projection, telepathy, clairaudience, and materialization (that
is, producing physical objects out of nothing). Producing objects out of
nothing, isn’t that one of the teachings of The
Secret“? “If you can think it here (your mind) , you can hold here” (your hand) is
a quote from teacher Bob Proctor.
More interesting is that Madam Blavatsky’s most famous
written work is titled The Secret Doctrine. Here’s
are a couple of quotes from that book:
“..Every dogmatic religion-pre-eminently the Christian. points out [that] Satan [is] the enemy of God. In reality,
[Satan] is the highest divine Spirit.” .. “Both
these Churches
[Catholic and Protestant] are fighting against divine
Truth, when repudiating and slandering the Dragon of esoteric Wisdom (Satan)”.
Wow,
let’s see now, The Secret and The
Secret doctrine. As Bob Proctor would say ..”Do you think that is an
accident .. it’s no accident”.
As covered in item 2 above, the true Creator of this
Universe is not tolerant of wizards and spiritualist. The Secret is
a lot more than a lesson in positive thinking. It is nicely disguised invitation
into the world of the occult, which was renamed the New Age in the
latter part of the 20th Century to make it more palatable to
the gullible. The New Age draws many of its practices from Eastern Mysticism.
That is why you will see Buddha show up about a half dozen times in The
Secret and you will see a quote from him also. Jesus is shown briefly
one time in this presentation at the same time they mention “all the great
teachers”. The New Age movement doesn’t recognize Jesus Christ as The Savior
who died and rose from the dead, but merely another of the great teachers
or Avatars. Funny, I can’t recall having read about Madam Blavatsky or any other great spiritual leader ever
appearing in bodily form after their death!
7. BICYCLE BOY AND THE WORK ETHIC
One of the episodes in The Secret concerns
a boy that is enthralled with a certain new bicycle. In the old days, he
would have been encouraged to mow lawns, sack groceries, baby sit, or maybe
get a paper route in order to obtain that new bike. Thank Buddha those
days are gone! Using The Secret it
is only necessary to visualize that bike, concentrate on having it, send
out positive waves, and sit on your butt and it will magically appear.
The Universe is just waiting for your order and then it will be filled.
Johnny had better get his order in quickly though.
Once the people down at the bicycle factory learn of The Secret they
will likely quit their jobs. Who needs to work when you can conjure up
everything you want or need?
