I felt a need just after I finished the above study to add one small descriptive definition as there seems to be a misunderstanding surrounding this "confirmed covenant."
The English translation of Daniel 9:27 says;
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week..."
It has been called by so many a "covenant with many" like this is a label that would appear at the top of an agreement. Sort of like:
'THE COVENANT WITH MANY'
And then there would be an index and the body of this agreement.
However, that is not what the original text states. The Hebrew text says:
"...uegbir ( he shall be master of ) brith ( covenant ) irbim ( to many ones )..."
As the prior study shows, there was a covenant "confirmed before by God in Christ" that was then made manifest, or again confirmed on earth to men, when Jesus, the Christ of God, actually came in the flesh and made good the already confirmed covenant. It is therefore, given to many. Those many are any and all who will believe and accept His gift, or come TO covenant with Him.
The above statement in bold is misleading. It is not a "covenant with many" it was a "covenant to many" whereby many could come to the promise given Abraham and become one of the "many seeds" who are one in and through Jesus Christ.
Jesus stated clearly this, and it is recorded in Matthew 26:28 and Mark 14:24;
For this is my blood of the new testament , which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
The Greek word for "testament/covenant" is one in the same. It is "diatheke" and testament or covenant are the same.
The blood covenant was confirmed 430 years prior to the law being given between God and His Son, in heaven. Then, when Jesus came here in the flesh, He was the covenant and His death "confirmed" His covenant among men so the many who would "come to covenant" with Him by accepting His covenant by faith, are adopted into the blessing promised Abraham.
The "covenant" that is "to" many is still open for any an all to accept. The hitch most miss, is Israel was given 7 years, or one week to accept it. The first 3 1/2 years was Jesus bringing the good news of the acceptable year of the Lord. The time God chose to bring His gift of salvation in His confirmed covenant to Israel.
Israel rejected it and hung the covenant on the cross. When Jesus arose, the gift was then given to rhe guests who were not originally invited to the marriage, the Gentiles. The "many" who would accept, or come "to" the covenant He already confirmed, or made strong.
That covenant is still there for as "many" as will accept it. When the fulness of the Gentiles be "come in" as in called home, the clock starts again on Israel for 3 1/2 years to again, accept the covenant confirmed by God, in Christ 430 years before the law was given.
As the original Hebrew states, it is not a "covenant with many", it is the "covenant to many ones."
Once the body of Spirit filled believers is gone, the clock starts for 3 1/2 years for Israel. The so named "time of Jacob's (Israel's) trouble." The "time, times and a half" that closes the second half of the 70th week.
If you have not already, will you "come TO the covenant" that has been confirmed in His sacrifice? If you will not, you will be stuck with Israel and have to endure what the disobedient children of Jacob must endure for their rejection of the "covenant to many." The Jew first, then it came to the Gentile.YBIC,Michael deKruif
