"Matt (24 March 2007)  "Bankruptcy ... thoughts""

My thoughts are, if you have a job your wages could, and probably will be attached. If you are self employed any bank accounts or inventory can be attached. I used to do collections for the phone company, (in California) and you can keep bringing someone in for an "order of exam." Even if the person has no assets, you can serve them and bring them into court to answer your questions. You can do this every couple of months. If the debtor fails to show up, they are in contempt, a bench warrant is issued and it's just a matter of time until they get a traffic ticket or are picked up by other means. The amount of the "bail" is usually the amount of the debt.

I'm no advocate of bankruptcy, however, being hounded for years just seems like a lot of wear and tear. It's not easy in today's world to live under the radar.

Better to be a good steward and not let oneself get into a place like this. If a Christian finds themselves in serious debt, there are Christian, non-profit, organizations that go to the creditors and try to negotiate easy terms. As Christians we are also required to pay our debt.

My two cents.......
