Debkafiles is reporting that Russian sources "claim" to have advance knowledge of a US attack on Iran that will commence on April 6th. The Russian sources report the Pentagon has dubbed the operational name to be code-named as "Bite." The Russian sources claim the operation is scheduled to last for 12 hours. It will allegedly consist of missile and aircraft strikes on Iran's nuclear program with enough devastation to set Iran's nuclear program back by several years.

The Alpa-Omega Report advises our readers that the Pentagon has always conducted initial strikes during the dark phase of the moon ('new moon") in order for aircraft to be less visible. April 6th falls just after a full moon so any strike on April th 6th flies in the face of established Pentagon war doctrine. Most likely, Russian sources have been fed misinformation knowing the information would get back to the Iranians and thus further rattle the Iranians and perhaps provoke an Iranian military response before an actual US strike. A pre-emptive action by Iran could then be used as a diplomatic excuse to legally launch a real attack.

Tied into these developments was a statement from British Prime Minister Tony Blair who intially issued a vague statement threatening a "new phase" in regards to freeing British sailors captured last Friday by Iranian naval forces. His statement was later followed up by government officials indicating that Blair's reference to a "new phase" was in regard to an upcoming briefing before Parliament showing GPS coordinates as proof that the British sailors were in Iraqi waters. However, Blair's remarks were deliberately vague and could be interpreted as a warning of military action yet to come.

Debka also notes that the new US naval maneuvers are also likely designed to rattle the Iranians but it also serves as a demonstration to other Persian Gulf nations of America's resolve to protect the region against Iranian military aggression. The maeuvers also begin a day in advance of the Arab League Summit being held in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia. The maneuvers also send a re-assuring message to the rest of the Arab world which is fearful of Iran's growing power.

Also in the latest Debka article is a notation that the purpose of the French aircraft carrier task force now off Iran's southern coast is to take over air support duty for NATO forces in Afghanistan. By taking over that role, both US aircraft carriers are free to conduct the naval exercises in the Gulf. LINK HERE.

US Saber Rattling Against Iran Grows Quiet

One intelligence analysis agency connected to the CFR had listed a chronology of events leading up to an attack on Iran this year. One item mentioned that would occur, just before any attack would be the US government and the Bush administration halting any saber-rattling statements. The Baltimore Sun newspaper now is noting that suddenly, the saber-rattling has stopped. According to the intelligence analysis just mentioned, the lack of such saber rattling indicates that Bush administration is about to launch military strikes against Iran. A senior Russian parliamentary official and leader of the ultranationalist Liberal Democratic Vladimir Zhirinovsky believes that a U.S. attack on Iran is inevitable, he has told Ekho Moskvy radio station.

The war is inevitable because the Americans want this war, he said. Any country claiming a leading position in the world will need to wage wars. Otherwise it will simply not be able to retain its leading position. The date for the strike is already known it is the election day in Israel (March 28). It is also known how much that war will cost, Zhirinovsky said. LINK HERE.
