You might be right.  I just dug out an update from Chuck Missler on this subject from this past December 2006.  Apparently, the Israeli government has already contacted the government of Ethiopia to try to "secretly" take the Ark/Mercy Seat out of Ethiopia and back to Israel.

 

Fortunately, .......and interestingly.....the Ethiopians are Messianic Christians (thanks to Phillip's witness and baptizing of the Ethiopian Treasurer).  When they got wind of this plan, which would NOT line up scripture, they objected and forced the cancellation of this "deal".  At least that is the latest understanding.  There are Monks who devote their whole life to guarding the Ark and Mercy Seat.  They know the scriptures.  The Ark and Mercy Seat are to be delivered to the Messiah......not Christ rejecting Jews.  But we shall see.....or perhaps we won't see, because we will be gone.

 

Here's one more scripture Chuck Missler quoted that could refer to this future GIFT to our Messiah.  Everyone in the world will see this happen, when it happens......so there will be no "secreting" it away from the Ethiopians according to prophecy.  Jesus Christ has never SAT on the Throne of David.....although it is prophesied that He would do this.  Being both King and High Priest (and God), He will appropriately sit on the Mercy Seat Himself.

 

I find it fascinating that this Ark has been hidden away by God all these years, and guarded by devote men of God all this time.  It does seem more appropriate than having it buried in the ground some where....lost.

Isa 18:3		All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.
