Both Iran and Syria said Sunday US forces must withdraw from from Iraq because they are fueling the violence.
The conference decided on a follow-up at foreign ministers level next month in Istanbul. Over the weekend, DEBKAfiles military sources reveal American air contingents from the United States and Europe continued to land at US Persian Gulf air bases. Iran responded by placing its air defense units on a war footing and deploying Revolutionary Guards special forces units around its nuclear installations.

Quoting three Israeli military and two government sources, the French news agency AFP reports the Syrian army has accelerated its deployment of medium and long-range rockets capable of striking major towns across northern Israel.
DEBKAfiles sources note the timing of the unusual disclosure, the day before the Iraqi neighbors conference in Baghdad. It appears to be aimed at deterring Syria from being tempted into military action to ease the sense of isolation which the Baghdad meeting will tend to aggravate.

According to DEBKAfiles military sources, the two missiles which reached the southern part of Ashkelon Tuesday, March 6, were range-finding exercises for the new weapons. Four Israelis were slightly wounded. Their manufacturers, Irans Revolutionary Guards, have overcome the snag which held the radius of Palestinian missiles down to 12-13 km from Gaza and upgraded it to 19 km.
US forces in Iraq capture al Qaeda leader known as the Butcher with 15 insurgents

He was seized with a group of six in an early Friday raid in northern town of Mosul. A US military statement said the Butcher was responsible for many kidnappings, beheadings and suicide operations in the Ramadi area of Anbar and in Mosul. Another eight members of an insurgent courier network were rounded up near Karmah, including an al Qaeda media emir responsible for propaganda. Two men suspected of helping foreign fighters slip into Iraq were detained in Falluja.

The three-way conspiracy to darken the US presidents tour was put together in Tehran Tuesday, March 6, by Iranian leaders, visiting Venezuelan foreign minister Nicolas Maduro Moros and Hamas hard-line leader Khaled Meshaal, who arrived in Iran for the second time in a month.
