"Pentecost--6 Sivan or "Morrow
after the Sabbath""
Dear
Doves,
There seems
to be many posts putting Pentecost on Sivan 6 (May 22-May 24 depending
on various calendars).
According
to Leviticus 23, I believe the Feast of Weeks counts the Sabbath, and seven
of them, to indicate that the day after the seventh Sabbath is always the
first day of the week. The beauty of this is that it puts Pentecost on
Sunday May 27th, which is 200 days (4 x 50 or 5 x 40) from the 14,400 days
of November 8, 2006 and 600 days from Rosh Hashanah 2005 (14,000 days from
June 7, 1967). The new moon was not sighted in Israel until March 20th,
but this does not affect May 27th.
This calendar
has been argued by those in Israel before. However, when Christ was crucified
and rose again, the 17th of Nisan coincided with Sunday as it probably
did for the Exodus and even the Ark resting on the mountains of Ararat.
So there was no debate that year. With the 17th of Nisan on a Sunday,
Pentecost would have landed on Sivan 6. This is further established by
the fact that Nisan 10 (the day to present the Lamb) is also known to us
as Palm Sunday.
It is interesting
that the barley was found in Israel on March 18th and 19th to keep the
Aviv early.
We all have
our ideas, but if this is the season, and we are watching, we should be
ready.
Now is not
the time to go to sleep or get drunk!
