It is
difficult to know when HOLY SPIRIT is telling you something. I get SMI
(Spiritual Message Impairment) and question if it is from God or if it
is just my own thoughts. We all do. So what is the answer?
We could
ask for a fleece test like Gideon did in The Bible book of Judges
6:37-40. Sermons based on this subject are common. One problem with
this today is we often must decide something quickly or at least soon.
Wait! Look at the whole passage. Remember “Bible Verse Warning” message
#040 (link below). Verses 19-21 tell how Gideon received a quick answer.
He only did the fleece thing to confirm the first answer.
We don’t
need fleece type answers. JESUS explained things to us, then He left HOLY
SPIRIT with us. Following is the story of one family that asked for HOLY
SPIRIT help:
“My wife
Sandy and I felt an urging to sell our house to buy one better suited for
our kids. We prayed and prayed, asking God not to let us buy a house out
of vanity or pride, but to show us the one He would bless, where He wanted
us to be.”
“We drove
the realtor crazy. Then one day a friend called about a house in a neighborhood
we liked. We hurried over only to find the owners had just received an
offer. But still they listened as we told them all about how we were also
trying to sell our house. Well, then God got to work. The offer didn’t
hold up, and since the other couple also wanted to change neighborhoods,
they decided to look at our house. You know where I’m going! Yes, they
bought our house, we bought theirs, and it all came about because God was
in it!”
“I can’t
tell you how much fun it was taking my “confirmation” fleece around to
the same attorney, the same movers, etc. for both houses, hearing them
say how they’d never heard of such a thing happening before. It has taught
me that God does not have to wet my fleece before I make a decision. I
pray, follow His will, and be patient and alert to His answer.” [ed: I
add to this that we should continue with our efforts on the subject we
prayed about, not just decide God will take care of it. - Joe]
