Dear friends:You may have heard about the Jerusalem Post article today that said both Pastors John Hagee and Jerry Falwell embrace the "dual covenant theology" that says Jews do not have to accept Jesus as Messiah in order to go to heaven. Naturally, it is causing quite a stir on the Internet. See http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1139395509016&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
I was immediately dubious about the accuracy of the report, and suspicioned a spin job by the Post. Then I received an email from a friend in a Messianic ministry which said: "Jim, the Jerusalem Post today in an article 'Falwell: Jews can get to heaven' said that both John Hagee and Jerry Falwell believe in dual covenant theology whereby Jews do not need Jesus nor the cross to be saved. Both men are
vehemently denying they believe in this theology. So do not get suckered into writing about this before the final word has been written."Then I learned that Falwell categorically denies the report at http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/3/1/162532.shtml?s=ic.
He also says, "Dr. Hagee called me today and said he never made these statements to the Jerusalem Post or to anyone else. He assured me that he would immediately contact the Jerusalem Post and request a correction."
Based on the denial report from my friend and also Falwell's quote, for now I will assume the best about these two great men unless I hear otherwise. I suspect more public clarification to be issued soon and we can evaluate this further.
