A Prophetic Outline of Luke 19

    God’s people are [or should be] aware that coming events are always prophetically foreshadowed in the Scriptures.  The Word of God is filled with types and shadows.  See Colossians 2:16-17, Hebrews 8:1-5, and Hebrews 10:1.

Scripture                         Event                                                    Foreshadowing

Luke 19:1       Christ passes through Jericho             Foreshadows the Lord’s return to                 

                        on the way to Jerusalem                     Jerusalem at His second coming.  He

                                                                                    will cross the Jordan river right next      

                                                                                    to Jericho just as Joshua did 3,500

                                                                                    years ago.  See Joshua 3 – 4.

19:2-10            The salvation of Zacchaeus                Foreshadows the Jews who come to

                                                                                    Christ just before the beginning of

                                                                                    the Tribulation.

19:11-27          The parable of the pounds                  Foreshadows the rapture of God’s

                                                                                    people and the “bema” judgment

                                                                                    which will determine our rewards.

                                                                                    See 2 Corinthians 5:10 and Romans

                                                                                    14:10. 

19:28-44           The Triumphal Entry of  Christ        Foreshadows His even greater entry

                                                                                    into Jerusalem at the end of the

                                                                                    Tribulation – Beginning of His

                                                                                    Millennial Kingdom.  See Zechariah

                                                                                    9:9, Revelation 19:11-21, Zechariah

                                                                                    14:1-9, and Ezekiel 43:1-12.

19:45-46           The cleansing of the Temple             Foreshadows the cleansing and

                                                                                    dedication of the Millennial Temple.

                                                                                    See Ezekiel 43:18-27 and 45:18-25.

19:47-48            Christ teaching in the Temple           Foreshadows the Lord teaching the

                                                                                     people during His Millennial

                                                                                     Kingdom.  See Isaiah 2:2-4, Micah

                                                                                    4:1-5, and Zechariah 8:20-23.
