Syrian colonel admits running agents in Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraqi state television has aired the confessions of an alleged Syrian intelligence colonel who claimed that Damascus was running agents in Iraq and managing insurgents camps. The show “Terrorists in the Grip of Justice” airs nightly the confessions of detainees captured by Iraqi security forces.

Although popularly acclaimed, human rights and legal experts have raised eyebrows about the programme in a country recovering from 35 years of authoritarian rule. It is impossible to verify the authenticity of the detainees’ statements.
