Abbas Says Hamas Welcome to Join PA

PA leader Mahmoud Abbas said that he welcomes the decision of the Hamas leadership to participate in PA council elections scheduled for this July.

Up until now, PA elections were boycotted by Hamas one of the world’s most notorious terrorist organizations, characterized by fanatic hatred for Israel.

Hamas’ fierce opposition to the Oslo Accords has kept it out of any official role in running the PA. Hamas’ strong showing in recent PA municipal elections, however, has influenced its decision to vie for power within the PA and its mother organization, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Hamas is counting on its strong popularity with Arab voters in Yesha and their general dissatisfaction with the current PA leadership to catapult the group to victory in July election.
