"Human Rights as the Sin of the Nation"

The Solemn Assembly

Human Rights as the Sin of the Nation

If my people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves,

and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,

then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin

and will heal their land.  II Chronicles 7:14

Deep-rooted sin is the ultimate reason why revival has not come to the church, and why healing has not come to the nation.

The Unseen Dilemma

We are caught in an unseen dilemma, which makes the confessing of our deep sins more complicated than it may appear on the surface.  This is because we all have ‘blind spots’ and often do not see our deep sins.  These blind spots can exist because of our love for a particular sin, because of ignorance, or because of pride that serves to blind our spiritual eyes to the sin.

The grave consequence is that we can confess countless secondary sins over and over again without ever getting close to—or seeing—the root problem.  The result is that we cannot have the movement of the Spirit that will bring the national healing for which we so desire.

We continue to confess secondary sins over and over again—year after year—in an endless but futile attempt to bring healing.  This has been happening for decades in our nation.  Billions and billions of prayers of confession have been offered, but none of them reach to the root sin that is bringing judgment to our land.

This simply means that our land is not healed because we do not see and admit our deepest sin.

Confessing the Deepest Sin of the Nation—Replacing
Holiness with Human Rights
There is no healing of the nation because we have replaced holiness with human rights.  This is the deepest sin of the nation.

The moral issues that are bringing our land to judgment have all come out of flawed decisions made by the Supreme Court.

The court has handed down these flawed decisions because there is a flawed doctrine of justice guiding it.

Human rights is the means by which constitutional protection has been extended to base sensuality, pornography, homosexuality, abortion, forced secularism, the breaking of the family unit, and all other manner of wickedness.

Our Wrong Frame of Reference

These decisions are flawed because the Supreme Court has a wrong frame of reference for deciding between good and evil.  That wrong frame of reference is human rights.  This false doctrine is the root of the court’s actions and is, therefore, the root sin of the nation.

Abortion rights, pornographic rights, and homosexual rights are the consequence of the doctrine of human rights.

The abortion, the pornography and the homosexuality that we confess over and over are the secondary, or consequential, sins that have grown from a root sin.  That root sin is the one of casting down holiness and replacing it with human rights.  Human rights is the real problem.

When human rights becomes the basis of a society’s morality, the society’s sense of right and wrong deteriorates to such a point that people do not even know the difference between diversity and depravity.

Americans have now begun to defend sexual depravity as if it is a healthy manifestation of cultural diversity, and they believe that homosexual rights, including the absurdity of homosexual marriage, must be granted constitutional protection.  Millions now ignorantly support this anti-morality—thinking it is moral.

This means our society no longer knows how to discern between holiness and wickedness.  Americas no longer even know that all people and all nations are accountable to God for holiness.

The situation has gotten so bad that the Supreme Court has said it cannot even define pornography.  In contrast, Christians have a clear and simple definition. Pornography is that which intentionally causes sexual desire that cannot be righteously fulfilled.

Often, when the church stands up for holiness in personal and marital relationships, it is criticized for being bigoted and intolerant, which is the opposite of the truth.

As extreme as the struggle has become, the church has still not identified the root sin.  If it has not identified the root sin, the church cannot confess and repent for itself, much less for the nation.

As a result, there is no healing of the land—just a continuing degeneration.  All the while, the social battle moves further and further to the so-called left, pulling the church and nation down into a moral abyss from which it will not recover.

There will be no healing unless this sin is confessed, and you are the one who must do the confessing.  To do so, however, your worldview must be transformed.  In one sense, you must become a true citizen of the Kingdom of God.

Why this Sin is so Critical

The one essential purpose of government is to do justice.  Justice is the great desire of the nations—it is the heart of government and the reason of state.  God has ordained the thrones of nations for the purpose of doing justice.  When government is reduced to its one essential attribute, we are left with the biblical Deborah setting under the palm tree, dispensing justice (Judges 4).

But to stop the moral slide, what doctrine of justice should our nation use?  This is the great question the church is not asking.

You must ask this question now and you must answer it rightly if there is to be healing in the land.

The right answer is that all judges in all nations are accountable to holiness at all times and in all ways.  You may ask, “What does this mean?  How is a judge to use holiness in his decisions?”

The Spirit of Holiness

To be holy is to be pure—innocent in all you say and do, having no hidden motives, wronging no one.  It is to be as openhearted as a little child and transparent in spirit as the crystal sea before the throne (Revelation 4).

This is the character of God and the spirit of little children.  Holiness brings forth righteousness in the land.  Holiness will separate you and the nation from all wickedness. We will no longer be justifying wickedness as we do in our courts today.

If our courts even considered the concept of purity in their decisions, then there would be no abortion, no pornography, and no justification of homosexual behavior.  Divorce would become next to non-existent in our nation again.

The scoffer may ask, ‘But what is purity?’  The answer is that it is as simple and plain as the innocence of a little child—which is know by all, and which gives testimony in the heart of all.  No pornographic affection or act can ever meet this simple and just standard.  No one in his right mind can truly mock at the justice of purity, or the purity of true justice.

In turn, holiness is what sets you apart for His service.  Holiness is not something you do.  It is not something you must pursue, and holiness is not rules to which you submit.  Holiness is a state of rest in the Lord.  You rest in the strength and beauty of His childlike character.  You are to be holy as God is holy.  Holiness brings you into His presence, which is a state of being.

The One Basis for All Relationships

Holiness is the moral foundation for all relationships and it is the only valid basis of justice.  It is the one and only character-based ethic.

Our legal ethic must be rooted in the character of God because God is the only basis for true character.  Man is made in the image of God.  This means that we are to govern our relationships by the same principle God uses to govern His relationships.  Just as we relate to God by holiness, so also are we to relate to each other by holiness.  There is no alternative.

This is really very simple and the only true self-evident justice.  It is so simple we overlook it.  We have not realized that holiness is so comprehensive it can be linked—and should be linked—to all human relationships.

This means that holiness is the only valid moral standard for all peoples, at all times, and in all relationships.  It is the one true standard in heaven and on earth—for individuals, for the church, and for the nations.

Does this Seem Impossible to You?

Does this seem hard or harsh to you?  If so, it is only because holiness is so foreign to you.  Holiness is not hard, for holiness gives its testimony in the spirit of little children—and it is the way of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 18).  In fact, it is impossible for any other foundation to bring justice to any land.

All other ethics are rooted in the rejection of holiness, whether their adherents realizes this rejection or not.  To laugh at holiness is to mock God.  To reject holiness is to reject God.

Our Judges will Answer to God’s Court

When our nation answers to God in His court (and it will), He will call the judges before His throne.  He will not ask our judges how well they defended human rights.  He will ask them how purely they pursued holiness in all their decisions.

Otherwise, God cannot judge our nation or any other nation.  If there is not one true standard for all, then there is no means by which God can hold all accountable.  He will hold all nations accountable to holiness.  He will not use or recognize the transient alternatives to holiness that rise and fall over the centuries as the nations rise and fall in their rebellion (Isaiah 42).

Human Rights is Characterless

Human rights is not even a character based ethic.  This is why immorality is protected in our courts.  This also shows that human rights and holiness are two opposing doctrines about the moral basis of human relationships and about our obligation to society.

Holiness has vanished from America’s consciousness.   Human rights is the means by which holiness has been removed from our land.  Most people do not even know that they are accountable to holiness.  They do not know what holiness is—and because of their worldview, they cannot conceive of holiness.

The church does not understand the comprehensiveness and universality of holiness.  It does not know that holiness is to be applied to all relationships, in all levels of society, and in all levels of all governments.

Yet, this is at the heart of the Gospel of the Kingdom, and this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached as a testimony to the nations, then the end shall come (Matthew 24).

In the end, human rights outlaws holiness, and bears its fruit in the spirit of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Yet, the church is so full of national pride that it does not see that these two doctrines are at war with each other.  The church believes and propagates one deception after another about the origin and nature of human rights.

A False World View

We must confess that we have allowed ourselves to be deceived.  We have embraced a false worldview that has given rise to a false ethic.

This is why so many Americans have been persuaded by the arguments of the court that it is morally wrong to have prayer in public schools, or that it is wrong to stand for purity against abortion rights, or that it is wrong to stop pornographic producers.

This is why they believe that it is wrong to stand against the so-called diversity found in the embracing of homosexual rights.  Yet, tolerance is not the true moral standard, holiness is.

Sadly, even the church in America has fallen pray to the root of this secular lie. Our church lives the life of a split and broken personality.  This is why it is made impotent and cannot bring healing to the land.

We must see and confront our sin.  We must confess and forsake it.  Then, we must fully embrace holiness.  Only then will we have a true foundation with which to call our courts to submission to the ways of God.  Only then will we bring healing to the land.

Time of Confessing the Sin of the Nation

Now you must be ready to take the step to confess our national sin. We will do so in prayer.  First, read over the prayer, then pray it to the Lord.

Heavenly Father, Maker of Heaven and Earth:

At this solemn moment I humble myself and seek Your face.

I now come before You to confess the deepest sin of the nation.

Heavenly Father, our nation has cast down holiness and replaced it with human rights.  As a result, our courts have justified all manner of wickedness, including the sins of pornography, abortion, and homosexuality.

Our judges are leading us headlong down a path to Sodom and Gomorrah. Certain destruction lies ahead.

O Father, let it not be so.  Let holiness burst forth in our land.  Let holiness replace human rights.  Let our courts judge rightly.  Let righteousness grow instead of wickedness.

I make this confession, and this request, in the sweet name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

The Example of Daniel’s Confession

1It was in the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, who became king of the Babylonians.

2During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, was studying the writings of the prophets. I learned from the word of the Lord, as recorded by Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years.

3So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and fasting.  I wore rough sackcloth and sprinkled myself with ashes.

4I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God!  You always fulfill your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and keep your commands.

5But we have sinned and done wrong.  We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.

6We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke your messages to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land. . . .

     11. . . So now the solemn curses and judgments written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out against us because of our sin. . . .

18 . . .“O my God, listen to me and hear my request.  Open your eyes and see our wretchedness.  See how your city lies in ruins—for everyone knows that it is yours.  We do not ask because we deserve help, but because you are so merciful.

19 O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive.  O Lord, listen and act!  For your own sake, O my God, do not delay, for your people and your city bear your name.  Daniel 9:1-19 (NLT)

Nehemiah’s Encouragement to the People

9 . . . Don’t weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God.” All the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the law.

10 And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of choice foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”

11 And the Levites, too, quieted the people, telling them, “Hush! Don’t weep! For this is a sacred day.

12 So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God’s words and understood them.

                                                                                                       Nehemiah 8:9-12 (NLT)

My Concluding Prayer for You

My prayer for the reader is that God will give you the eyes to see the root sin of our nation, the strength to forsake the lie, the will to embrace holiness in all relationships, and the obedience to speak His testimony.

I pray that your worldview will be transformed, so that you can see and understand the beauty of holiness, and so that you can proclaim the testimony of the Lord’s saving grace, and that you will proclaim to the nations the fullness of the Kingdom of God.

My friend, this is the only solution, anything less is futile.

Come Lord Jesus.

O Lord, holiness is what makes your house beautiful

for days without end. Psalm 93:5

“I will not sin against the Lord.”
