Syrian Troop Pullback From Lebanon Seen Falling Short
"Syria President Bashar Assad is expected to announce today a pullback of his troops in Lebanon to positions near the Syrian border — falling short of a demand by President Bush yesterday for a "complete withdrawal, no halfhearted measures."

Arab leaders have publicly urged Syria to follow through on a 1989 accord to withdraw its troops from Lebanon"

Syria Weighs Troop Pullback From Lebanon
"Syrian President Bashar Assad was under pressure Saturday to announce a full troop withdrawal from Lebanon, though the announcement officials said he's likely to make — a partial pull-back — won't please President Bush, who said anything short of a full withdrawal would be unacceptable. Assad's announcement, expected to be made during a speech to his parliament, is seen as a bid to ease increasing Arab- and U.S.-led international pressure over the presence of 15,000 Syrian troops in Lebanon."
