"Likud Set For Referendum Vote On Disengagement Plan"

Likud set for referendum vote

"The Likud Central Committee is to vote Thursday evening on a resolution to urge Knesset passage of a law mandating a nationwide disengagement referendum, a measure strongly opposed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the chairman of the ruling party."

'The resolution is viewed as likely to pass by a wide margin. But Central Committee Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi said earlier this week that even if the measure is approved, there is "no chance" that a referendum bill will win Knesset approval, even if most Likud legislators vote in favor."

Likud Central Committee to Vote on Referendum Tonight

"The Likud Central Committee will convene this evening for a vote on whether the Likud Party should enact legislation to hold a referendum on the implementation of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan to withdraw from Gaza and the northern Shomron."

"The Central Committee is expected to vote overwhelmingly in favor of a referendum. PM Sharon is against holding such a referendum and has ignored decisions of his party's Central Committee in the past."
