"WHAT I USED TO CALL THE EASTER RABBIT"

Dear John & Doves,

I was reading this article called "Is Easter Really A Pagan Holiday? at http://www.crosswalk.com/news/religiontoday/1319944.html and Susan Richardson says the following:

“The new Christian might look at a familiar symbol and see it with new meaning.” For example, the hare, which has evolved into the modern day bunny, was seen as a symbol of fertility and spring. A Christian could view the hare’s coming out of the burrow, as representative of the burial and resurrection and a completely different form of “new life.”

I know I was brought up with the idea of there being an Easter bunny, but I certainly don't view the hare coming out of the ground as "representative of the burial and resurrection and a completely new life form."  There are other things that come out of the ground like woodchucks and moles, and bears that hibernate in caves for the winter, but none are new life forms nor did they die.  Today as a grownup, I now think the following:

What I used to call the Easter rabbit
Reminds me of every past sinful habbit
Without Jesus, I didn't have a hope or a prayer
Caught like a caged rabbit in the Devil's snare
But Jesus set me free
To be the creature I ought to be
He took me out of my carnal bunny suit
To bear the Lord's precious, righteous fruit
No longer a snared in sin rabbit
Prayer is part of my daily habit
Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross
To save me so I am not lost
Thank you Jesus for setting me free
To be the creature I ought to be
Hallelujah! The Lord Jesus Christ is risen indeed
May I follow him faithfully where ever he may lead

God bless you,
Donna
