"We first started to see it last spring," said Spencer Marshall, co-owner of
Marshall's Farm Honey, who has about 100 hives spread across Marin. "It can
wipe out up to 50 percent of hives. Imagine a farmer seeing 50 percent of his
cows go down."

"Honeybees pollinate about a third of the human diet and dozens of
agricultural crops, including almonds. The state (California) produces 80
percent of the world's almond supply."

A "tiny" plague with huge implications.
