Shalom All:I want to share with you a story of a weekly Sabbath counting that I had to
abandon.Women have to prepare for the weekly Sabbath, making the Challah and a
festival meal for it, every SEVEN days unless a feast occurs in the mean
time.A friend shared with me that a man had discovered that Sabbath was being kept
on the wrong days!!! Aaaah Horrors!!!!This man determined that the SEVEN days of counting for Sabbath should start
at the sighting of each new moon. Ok .... .Then on the seventh day would be Sabbath.
Count another seven days, another Sabbath,
another seven days, another Sabbath,
another seven day, another Sabbath,
... that is 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 28 days.
now it becomes tricky ...
another seven days and we are ... reset ... by the new moon.As a woman, wife, mother who feeds and cares for my family, regularity and
dependabilty is a good thing. This man's great discovery involved fractions of a week that in the end
neither gained or lost a lunar month of time. And even working with "days"
it would be strange to gain or loss an entire lunar month of real time. It
takes the moon a set amount of time to orbit the earth. What we reason that
"time" to be it doesn't change the real time the moon travels. If there is
confusion it is not with the moon, it is with us and our "reasoning".Dianne
