How I Overcame Cancer and Learned to Walk in Divine Health

I share the following testimony because of the many Christians today who are sick and in need of healing in the body of Christ. I am convinced that if we would only believe the awesome promises Jesus left us in His Word that no Christian, who is walking in obedience, ever needs to be sick and that we should all walk in divine health!

About 3 years ago, based upon a biopsy and lab report, my doctor called me into his office to tell me that I had prostate cancer and that I would die a painful death unless I immediately followed his advice. He gave me three options, namely chemo therapy, radiation or surgery.

I still recall driving home that day with my wife Judy and telling her the doctor’s report. I knew I had a decision to make! As a Christian, do I put my trust in the doctor or in the Lord? I decided to put my trust in the Lord because based upon Psalm 118:8 Ï already knew “Ït is better to put your trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. I never went back to that doctor.

I also knew that “Life and death are in the power of the tongue”(Proverbs 18:21 ) and I decided that day to never utter the words “I have cancer” but only to say “The doctor says I have cancer.” I also decided that day to tell only a limited number of people about the doctor’s report because I did not want a lot of people confessing verbally that I had cancer when I was not about to confess it.

It is clear from scripture that because we are created in the image of God, that what we speak has creative energy for good or for bad. “Life and Death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). That is why I was not about to confess that I had cancer!

This is also why it is so important when we become saved that we confess verbally our salvation. Romans 8:9 If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.” (Incidentally that word “Saved ” translated from the original Greek is SOZO that means “saved, healed, delivered, made whole.”) So the Word says that Jesus had not only saved me but also had already healed me when I was saved. Most pastors today seem to focus only on “salvation” but rarely mention that at the same time I was also healed, delivered, preserved and made whole. Right then and there I claimed my promise of healing!

I now believe that all sickness and all disease comes from the devil. John 10:10 tells us that Satan comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy but that Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. It is never God’s will for us to be sick, but I knew I had to do battle with the enemy.

The good news is that in Luke 10:19 Jesus has given us Authority over ALL the power of the enemy! Matt:16:19 promises that “whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven” and Mark 11:23 says Ässuredly”, I say unto you, whoever says to this mountain “Be removed and be cast into the sea and does not doubt in his heart…he will have whatever he asks….believe you will receive them and you will have them.”

John 14: 13,14 says “And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If you ask anything in my name I will do it.”

Armed with these awesome promises from God’s Word, by faith, I took authority over the devil, bound and cast him out of my body and into the pit of Hell, and I then spoke to my mountain of cancer and commanded it to be removed. It was not instantaneous but as I continued to stand in faith and verbally speak to that mountain, it was removed!

There are dozens of promises just like these and they are here for us today if we act in faith to believe them. I have found however that there are two major conditions if they are to work for me and for you.

First there must be no unconfessed sin in our life and no unforgiveness toward anyone because God has clearly said He does not hear our prayers if we have sin in our life. (Psalm 66:18) We must be walking holy and righteous before God. This is also the key to walking in divine health. Jesus said “Be perfect even as I am perfect.

Second, There must be no doubt in your heart.” James 1:6 clearly says “We must ask in faith without any doubt, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. For that man ought not to expect he will receive anything from the Lord.

Like most Christians,I have read these awesome promises many times but somehow didn’t really believe them. I read the Bible like a novel but didn’t really take these scriptures into my heart and act on them.

I can tell you that they are real and they really work if you will step out in faith. God is a faith God and He responds to our faith not to our begging.

When it comes to any kind of sickness, I believe we have all been brainwashed into dependence upon our health insurance, the medical profession and pharmaceutical drug remedies and that is where most Christians put their faith at the first sign of sickness. We put our faith in the doctor. And I am sure that when we make this choice, God sadly lets us turn our back on His wonderful promises. Then we ask all our friends to pray for us but our faith is in the doctor and not in God.

Let me challenge you. When you come down with any type of sickness from a cold to cancer – what is your first thought? Do you head for the medicine cabinet or call the doctor…..or do you turn to the Lord, claim his promises and rebuke the devil? I believe many of us are sick because we have placed our trust in the world system and not in God – we have doubted that God can heal us– and if we doubt, then we won’t receive from God!

Finally, we need to know our position in Christ. We are children of the King, joint heirs with Christ, seated in the heavenlies, clothed in the righteousness of Jesus and commanded to come boldly, in the name of Jesus, into the throne room of God with our petitions. He is not a reluctant God who if we beg long and hard enough, maybe He will hear and answer our prayers. We need only to claim His promises and according to 2 Corinthians 1:20, the answer is always Yes!

I am happy to report that today I am totally free and healed of cancer. I give all thanks and praise to Jesus and the awesome and wonderful promises He left for us. I can say with absolute assurance that His promises are for real and they do work.

I believe doctors are OK for diagnosis so I can know best how to pray but when it comes to healing, they cannot compete with Doctor Jesus.

While Satan may attempt to put symptoms upon me, I now know how to rebuke him and drive him away….and both Judy and I do expect to walk in divine health for the rest of our lives or until Jesus comes!

Every morning I claim the wonderful promises in God’s benefit package found in Psalm 103 where it is written:

Bless the Lord O my soul and

Forget not all His benefits:

Who forgives all my sins,

Who heals all my diseases,

Who redeems my life from destruction,

Who crowns me with lovingkindness,

Who satisfies my mouth with good things,

So that my youth is renewed like the eagles.

As I write this I have just reached my 75^th birthday but I can say like Caleb that I have the energy of when I was 40. I still hold a full time job, the Lord is renewing my youth as He promised and I am getting younger every day. Praise the Lord!
