"Blair calls for powerful
EU leader"
John and
Doves,
The article below is very interesting in that it presents the following
3 main ideas :
"The rationale for Europe now is power,
not peace," he ( Tony Blair ) told The Times newspaper in an interview
published on Thursday (9 June, 2011 ), adding that European citizens
were willing to support this new direction for the European
project. "
personal comment:
1. Europe is more interested now in power, than in peace.
Does this mean military might ? ... Manifest destiny ? Dominance over
the nations ?
"What they ( European citizenry
) can understand completely is that in a world in particular in
which China is going to become the dominant power of the 21st century,
it is sensible for Europe to combine together, to use its collective
weight in order to achieve influence."
personal comment :
2. Europe is now choosing pragmatism ( large numbers of people ) over
idealism ( principles and values ).
They want unity of the 27 European States for the sake of voting power.
It's all about power and ambition.
"But more European integration to combat
the rising powers of China, Brazil and India, must be
accompanied by greater democratic legitimacy, Blair added. "
personal comment :
3. Mr. Blair wants not only the special
relationship between the UK and the US, but also the pan-European bloc
of nations to ally. The West versus the rest. Who can make war
with such a beast ?
