I had a similar experience three days ago when a dove landed on a fence
about eight feet from where I was standing. It remained there for about
30 to 40 seconds while we stared at each other. This was strange enough
to me that I decided to talk to it and that didn't even frighten it away.

I shared your post with my nephew and he said that he was doing a roofing
job last week and two doves would land on the roof and stay there for
long periods while he was working. They continued to come back everyday
until he completed the job.
