The war in Iraq has generated much discussion from various perspectives, however there is one perspective that is rarely if ever considered, and that is God’s perspective. What is God’s plan for Iraq in His grand scheme for the future? Revelation 18 pictures Babylon, the future capital of Iraq as a great city in the last days. Iraq will emerge as a super power and it will see a renaissance unparalleled in the history of the world.Ezekiel 38, 39 describes the invasion of Israel by Russia along with most of the countries around Israel. They are even now being armed by Russia for this invasion which could take place in the near future. However, God intervenes on behalf of Israel and wipes out these hordes that come against them. Iraq will not participate in this terrible war and will be left intact when it is over.
Iraq’s economy has nearly doubled since the liberation, and many of the world’s largest companies are interested in Iraq. The economy is expected to grow by 15.5% in 2007. Oil revenues have climbed from 5.1 billion in 2003 to 24.5 billion in 2005. It’s oil reserves are second only to Saudi Arabia.
The Iraq people desperately need a time for religious, political, and economic freedom. However, ultimately God will pour out his wrath on the Anti-Christ who will have made his headquarters in Babylon as described in Revelation 18.
The prophecies of the Bible concerning Iraq will be fulfilled whether we like it or not. The nations will come to realize that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is Lord of the Universe.
