A peacekeeping force in Gaza?

The last commentary I posted posed the question of whether Syria would attack Israel.

Today I pose another question to my readers: Is there going to be an international peacekeeping force in Gaza and, if so, will that event be a confirmation of yet-to-be-agreed-upon seven-year covenant of peace, particularly a fulfillment of Daniel 9:27?

The following is an excerpt from a Haaretz article from earlier this week (emphasis added mine):

The European Union's foreign policy chief said Wednesday that an international peacekeeping force could possibly be deployed in the Gaza strip, though it would probably be difficult for Egypt to accept.

Javier Solana told the European Parliament in Brussels that "for the first time in many, many years, the idea of an international force" was not out of the question.

Solana said two groups in the Israeli parliament had said it may be the moment to call for such a force, at least to start with, in the south of the region where the Rafah border crossing to Egypt is located.

"We are working on that," he said. "The Israelis are also considering that possibility, the Palestinians are considering that possibility, the Egyptians are considering that possibility."
In the past I've documented that the European Union has been planning for an expanded role in Israel's security and to potentially be handed control of the West Bank in the event of any peace agreement being reached between the Israelis and Palestinians until a Palestinian state can be established.

As such, this latest development only raises the likelihood that the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy is eventually going to have soldiers on the ground in the Holy Land as it did in the days of Christ. It goes without saying that this latest development potentially sets the stage for the advent of the Antichrist to occur - an event which will be preceded by the Rapture of the Church! Considering how much attention news of this sort should be getting, isn't it amazing how quietly it is unfolding around us, practically going unnoticed by both the world and the Church? Is it any wonder, as such, that the Lord is going to come upon many like a thief in the night?

In closing, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana is quoted in the linked article above as saying the idea of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza may be difficult for Egypt to accept. Interestingly, bearing that tidbit in mind, the international Quartet of Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations is going to hold its next meeting in Cairo, Egypt on June 25th. Both Israel's Ehud Olmert and Palestinian president Abbas will be in attendance.

Something to think about, huh?

Christians, keep looking up! Our redemption draweth nigh!
