Thank you Donna for posting that good article on the FDA and drugs. It was very enlightening and we appreciated
reading the information written by Mr. Richards.
We live in a 55 and older complex and have heard several accounts of persons here who took meds that actually ruined their health. In two cases it was stated :" Fosomax did strengthen my bones, but caused stomach-esophagus problems that I have to live with . "
" Lopid did bring my cholesterol down, but now I have liver problems and a racing heart. "
And as far as Avandia - Actos is concerned, it does indeed control one's blood sugar, yet it is being avoided by those who have read the latest negative findings of deaths related to these drugs.
Also, diet drugs are found to cause suicidal tendencies and behavioral changes.

In all of these cases, the drug accomplished the specific-end for which it was made, but also caused greater health problems. It reminds me of the quip:
" The surgery was a success, only the patient died."
So.... does the FDA approve a drug for one reason only ? I would think that the possibility of death would ban any drug from the market ..and a "black box" certainly is not the answer

What about the much advertised Alli diet drug that came out this week ?
" My question is, will they tolerate soiled underwear to accomplish it? That's one of the most common
side effects of this drug. People actually spotted their clothes with uncontrollable anal discharges. I don't know about you, but to me that's not worth losing a pound a month. I think losing your self respect might be more valuable than that, but I guess that's up to each person to decide. I wonder how this works when dating? Do you wear, like, diapers? "

Remember Olene that they had put it in potatoe chips about 10 years ago ? People used to say:
"Olene? ... You're sitting in it"
Diarrhea is a very dangerous condition. The body is unable to take in nutrition and malabsorbtion and dehydration takes place. It is obvious that we must watch carefully all pharmaceuticals... even over-the counter drugs.
Again, thank you for alerting us to that very good article.

FDA : Drug Industry --- June 15, 2007
Part One http://www.newswithviews.com/Richards/byron34.htm
"Biotech drugs are inherently dangerous as they throw gene switches and powerfully influence functions of the body. Our understanding of what we are doing is in its infancy. This is like having the discovery of matches to light fires and not having any firefighting equipment or technology. Take the biotech company Amgen, with annual sales of 14.3 billion in 2006, and nearly half that revenue coming from two biotech drugs, Epogen and Aranesp, used in kidney disease. Aranesp is the blockbuster with 4.1 billion in sales for 2006, and is also used to treat anemia during chemotherapy. Amgen stock and sales are taking a beating as it is now coming to light that these drugs pose a significant risk for increased death when used, and doctors keep using them in an inappropriate way even though the FDA has warned them not to.
There was a time when a patient walking into the doctor’s office actually had a meaningful conversation. The amount of time spent and the type of lab work or diagnostics performed were not constrained by managed care. To the best of the doctor’s ability, the patient was given personalized care in the best interest of the patient. Patient centered care has been replaced by time constraints, minimized diagnostics, and maximized dispensing of questionable drugs. All of these problems are about to get significantly worse, as we enter the new era of von Eschenbach’s concept of personalized medicine, based on genomics and proteomics
Making a long story short, in order to receive medical care your blood will be evaluated by an FDA-controlled super computer, your genes will be profiled, your genetic weaknesses will be part of your medical record, and you will have an RFID chip in your arm storing your complex biological medical records, tracking your vital signs, and monitoring your whereabouts. If doctors think they have it bad now just wait until they become slaves to the FDA computer’s directions and drug prescriptions – which will no doubt be the latest and most expensive biotech drug experiment.
