"Spiritual Laws"

Dear Doves,

There are natural laws that work for all people whether they realize it or not.  The law of gravity is one of the first to come to my mind that we sometimes painfully learn to respect as a child.  There are also certain spiritual laws that work whether we realize it or not.  Just like the natural laws, they work for every person alike, both saint and sinner.  I have never sat down and tried to classify the spiritual laws, but I am keenly aware of their existence and try not to allow them to operate against me.

If I jump off of a building, the law of gravity will probably work as expected and see to it that I become painfully aware of its operation.  Of course, before we could understand how it worked, many people including Sir. Isaac Newton, researched it and published their findings.  When it comes to the spiritual laws, there has also been considerable research and published findings, but too frequently, the church thinks it can ignore the spiritual laws and not be adversely affected by them.  How foolish it would be for me to think that I could ignore gravity and not suffer the consequences of doing so.

Three of the spiritual laws that come to my mind right now are:  the Law of Faith, the Law of Sowing and Reaping, and the Law of Words.  There may be others, but these seem to be the most dominant.  In nature there are strong forces, (laws), and weak forces and I suspect that it's the same concerning spiritual laws.

I'm not going into a long explanation of these laws or give you all the places in the scripture where they are referenced, but just alert you to the fact that you need to be mindful of them and respect them, because they are continually operating either for you or against you.  Just like, violating the law of gravity can destroy you, except God intervenes, these laws can bring about your blessing or destruction.

The Law of Faith can briefly be stated, "Be it according to your faith!"  All things are possible through faith including you believing a lie and being destroyed because you believed it.  This is one of the devils primary ways to destroy people.  Just get them to believe the wrong thing and the Law of Faith will take care of the rest.  Over and over, we see God exhorting us to have faith and believe the right things so this law will work for us instead of against us.

The Law of Sowing and Reaping is briefly stated, "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap!"  It would be a mockery if a man could sow bad things and reap good things.  We see this law so clearly in nature when it comes to gardening and farming.  It is also a strong spiritual law, but the timing of the reaping is not as predictable as nature, so many people don't recognize the power of the spiritual law.  God frequently gives us special opportunities to sow so that we can reap the needed harvest.  Job was healed when he prayed for his friends.  Sarah conceived right after Abraham prayed for Abimelech's household (Gen 20:17-21:2).  The widow made Elijah a cake first, and then her barrel of meal didn't run dry.  Yes, I realize that many covetous ministers have taught this law to separate you from your money, but that doesn't annul the law.  It's real and it continually operates whether you realize it or not.

The Law of Words can be stated, "By your words, you are justified, or you are condemned!"  Your words are continually working for you or against you.  We don't understand the full power of words just like we don't understand how God spoke the worlds into existence, or why the fig tree withered and died due to Jesus' words, but we are still exhorted to speak to mountains and they will obey us.  Whereas, we can scientifically measure the immediate effect of natural laws, spiritual laws operate at a much slower pace and their effects usually aren't immediately measurable.  However if you continue to believe the same thing, sow the same thing, and speak the same thing, in time you will see the result of these laws in operation.

Our words either bind or enable spiritual forces.  If I invite someone into my house, the local sheriff would not be justified in standing at my door and trying to keep them out.  However, if I forbid someone to enter my house, that same sheriff would be justified in bringing the full force of the law to bear in order to prevent the person's entry.  By our words, we are continually preventing God from working on our behalf, or justifying him to intervene on our behalf.  He brought about the words of the children of Israel in allowing them to die in the desert, and if we don't want God to bring about certain of our words, then we had better not continually speak them.

Be careful about predicting negative things in your own life, or stating negative things in the progressive tense, because it may just be your words that are enabling the devil to bring those negative things about.  I have heard people say things like: "I am always the first to get the flu every winter."  By their own words, the devil will not only be justified in giving them the flu, but giving it to them first.  Put a guard over your tongue and only prophesy (predict) things that you want to come to pass, because there is power in your words.

Because we act and speak according to what we believe, we frequently see all three of these laws working together over time to bring about our blessing or destruction.  Since we can choose what we want to believe, we can choose to sow good things, and we can put a guard over our tongue, we can enable these laws to operate on our behalf to bring about blessing, if you will just be mindful of them.  Study the scripture in this area and you will see the effects of these laws operating from God speaking the worlds into existence in Genesis, to reaping the harvest of the earth that he has sowed in the Book of Revelation.  We have learned to harness the laws of electricity and magnetism and look what wonderful results have come of that knowledge.  There are even greater blessings available to us if we will learn to harness the spiritual laws and even though we have much to learn, it's never too late to start.  May your faith be increased, you only sow good things, and your tongue be an instrument of blessing!
