"He made the image of the beast to talk"

I have always heard this was a statue of the Anti-Christ and, indeed, what a wild miracle that would be if the statue talked, and indeed, when we are talking about the supernatural anything is possible.
 
However, is there anything about the "Image of the Beast" that demands it be a statue?
 
When I first heard this about the image of the Beast being made to talk my first thought was --
 
"TV set.  That's all it takes.  If the Image of the Beast was an electronic picture, a monitor of some kind, done deal.  The image talks.  And When St. John sees that prophetically, well -- 'he maketh the image to talk.'  That's the only way John would know to describe it."
