There is a bigger problem than Mexicans sneaking across our borders for a better life. The reason is also bigger than the terrible living conditions there. Organized crime has controlled Mexico. A police officer nearly died after he was shot five times outside his home.
Juan Pablo Elizondo had just completed guard duty at a hospital protecting some of his fellow officers who were being treated after they were shot. The two major crime groups are fighting each other and fighting the police.
Mexican police at local, state, and federal levels are being murdered on the streets, in police cars and unmarked cars, while having lunch in restaurants - practically everywhere. The new police chief of the city of Nuevo Laredo was murdered a few hours after he took the job. The government is trying to establish “law and order,” but gangsters in Mexico are showing the government they still control the country.
Mexican want the same thing most people of the world want; to work and live decently. Until individuals and businesses can thrive without the damaging effects of organized crime, Mexicans will continue to find ways to escape to U.S.A. and you and I would do the same thing.
We must help Mexico defeat organized crime if we want to stop illegal immigration to the U.S. Improving conditions in Mexico will keep people there.
