500 years ago people thought the ocean bottoms were nearly flat beds of sand. Juan de la Costa was the first person to keep records of measurements of water depth. He drew numbers on his map of the ocean along the coast. This was 1504 A.D.
133 years ago the first specialty ship for sea exploration discovered the first underwater canyon 27,000 feet deep. Recently, radar mapped the bottom of the oceans and we know gigantic canyons exist around the earth under the oceans.
Some of these are twenty-five times larger than our Grand Canyon. The ocean floor and the continental plates push together in places and slowly sink into the center of the earth forming giant canyons of rock which will soon melt. It took us a long time and billions of dollars to learn this.
4000 years ago, God asked Job: “Have you walked the recesses of the deep?” - Job 38:16
3000 years ago God told David about “channels of the sea” and “foundations of the world.” David included this in a psalm. - 2 Samuel 22:16
The Bible wins the information contest by more than three and one-half thousand years.
