"The Greatest Daddy"

Dear friends:

On this father’s day, let me tell you about the greatest Daddy ever, anywhere, anytime!

The Bible tells us that to His children, Father God is our Abba, or Daddy (Romans 8:15).

One reason Jesus came was to reveal the Father to us.  He told His disciples that whoever sees Him also sees the Father (John 14:9).  Paul tells us that Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).

You want to know what the Father is like? Look at Jesus.

You want to know the Father’s opinions?  Check Jesus’ opinions.

There are many things that Jesus revealed about the Father.  Two things stand out to me today.

1.  Our Daddy is extremely generous.  Jesus said, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32).  That statement boggles the mind, but it is confirmed by the fact that we are “heirs” and “joint-heirs” with Christ (Romans 8:17).

2.  Our Daddy is extremely gracious and longsuffering.  The best example of this is in the story of the prodigal son in Luke chapter 15.  The son took his inheritance, squandered it with wild living, ended up living with pigs, and went back home, broke and humiliated.  The father, a picture of our heavenly Father, welcomed him, not with rebuke, but graciously with open arms and even put on a party for him.  What mercy!  What love!

If you have squandered your life with wild or foolish living, just come running to your heavenly Daddy and He will welcome you with open arms and love, restore you, and probably give you a big party!

Or if you have loved ones who have strayed, follow your Father’s example and just keeping loving them.  Trust God to turn them around and bring them back.  He is faithful.

Jesus said, “I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (John 15:10).
