I have been reading with interest the comments pro and
con regarding Rick Warren. I love reading Jim Bramlett
and this isn't really a disagreement with his
position. I can only say, Test the spirits! (I John
4:1)
About two years ago, I was given a copy of The Purpose
Driven Life. I was thrilled, as I had been hearing
good things about the book. I determined to read the
chapter a day, even though these days a chapter a week
seems like all I can manage. By the middle of the
second week, reading the chapter a day was making me
somehow uncomfortable. It was like the book made me
sick to my stomach, only in a spiritual sense. By the
time I finished the book, I knew in my spirit that
Rick Warren was not for me. It was several months
before I began seeing articles on the internet raising
a red flag about the man's ministry; however, I had
seen that red flag in my innermost being.
This isn't criticism. I am sure Rick Warren knows and
loves the Lord and desires to serve. I can only say
that I got a definite spiritual Stop Sign when I read
his book. I just trust the Doves will "test the
spirits" and live accordingly.
