The Party of Liberal 'Morality'
Another sign of US disintegration is the dramatic decline of morality and civility in our government.
Dr. Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told party leaders that the way to beat the Republicans is to couch liberal issues in moral terms.
Dean's remarks came after a DNC poll that said religious people think the DNC is immoral. Dean told party leaders, “We have not spoken about moral values in this party for a long time. The truth is, we’re Democrats because of our moral values. It’s a moral value to make sure that kids don't go to bed hungry at night. It is a moral value not to go out on golf trips paid for by lobbyists.”
That would come as a surprise to many Democratic lawmakers. One has to ask how Dr. Dean would define ‘moral’.
Recently, Dr. Dean said that Republicans all look the same, are pretty much a white, Christian party and that many of them never made an honest living in their lives. In previous speeches, Dean has dropped such bombshells as “I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for.”
He’s called Republicans liars, evil, corrupt and brain-dead. In February, he told the Congressional Black Caucus that the Republican Party “couldn't get this many people of color in a single room” unless “they had the hotel staff in here.”
Very interesting brand of morality, isn’t it? Of the 44 Democrats in the Senate, 33 identify themselves as Christians. 43 out 44 are white. But it is the Republicans that Dean attempts to insult by calling them the party of white Christians.
Speaking at a gay and lesbian fund-raiser in California, Dean told prospective donors not to believe what they were hearing about the DNC, saying instead, “Its silliness and gossip. We’re doing fine.” Maybe. Maybe not.
Dr. Dean’s comments have even caused some Democrats to put a little distance between them. Even liberal Delaware Democrat Joe Biden went on TV to say that Dean, “doesn't speak for me with that kind of rhetoric, and I don't think he speaks for the majority of Democrats.”
That begs the question, if the chairman of the Democratic Party does not speak for Democrats, who does? The real issue is that there has been a decline in morality in both parties, but especially in the Democratic Party with its open embracing of homosexuality as a normal life style.
Historically, that’s a sign of the end for a nation. Any nation. Even one as great as this one.
