"response to John Madison"

Dear John,

You say in your post  http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/june2005/johnmd624.htm

"Sadly, Paul warned us of those days..he called it the "great falling away"...when politics would mean more to some Christians than their own salvation."

I'm wondering whose politics? which Christians? Do not our politics reflect our beliefs? Can you really divorce the two?

I'm wondering if you propose closing the window of God's grace on the Iraqis and allow evil to engulf them again before it's time. I think not.

I'm wondering if you propose abandoning our country to the philosophies supported by 'Blue America'. I think not. But, this involves political decisions, my friend, by those of us who dare meddle in 'politics'.

I'm wondering if you propose hiding our heads in the sand, until the rapture, while Christians are becoming 'the enemy' in the USA. I think not.

You don't agree with President Bush dividing 'the land'. Neither do I. But, there are political means with which we should attempt to lobby for our goals which do not include alienating the man who will weld power for another three years. You might consider that his opponents are more than willing to divide the land also, or obliterate it.

I suggest we discuss this issue AFTER the fact - it may shortly be a moot point.

In the meantime, there already are plenty of so-called 'Christians' who are putting their salvation in jeopardy as evidenced by mainline churches supporting gay pastors and gay marriage, by 'Christian' politicians supporting abortion, and by 'Christian' judges legislating the murder of the handicapped. Unfortunately, we cannot lump all Christians together anymore. And John - the President is not alone - everyone who has sinned today was "in DIRECT OPPOSITION AGAINST GOD".

Blessings
