"The night of the repair of Shavuot,"

Dear Doves,  I thought you may find this as interesting as I did.  This is the information from my attorney, who is a Messianic Jew, concerning their Shavuot celebration.  I had never heard anything about "the night of the repair of Shavuot" and thought you may also be interested to read it...  Our Shavuot celebration is June 18.For explanation of the date of our Shavuot celebration, please note that the Jewish calendar Shavuot date is Monday, June 13, but we aren't doing an extra midweek service.  This week, June 11, is our Shavuot preparation.  Specifically the Layl Tikkun Shavuot is a preparation BEFORE Shavuot.  It literally means "The night of the repair of Shavuot," since it seems that G-d had intended the people of Israel to stay awake and prepare their hearts for the revelation given at Mt. Sinai.

Shmot/Exodus 19.14  "Moshe went down from the mountain to the people and separated the people for G-d, and they washed their clothing. 15  He said to the people, "Prepare for the third day; don’t approach a woman."

The Midrashic [traditional explanatory] comment is that our ancestors understood this expectation, but nevertheless fell asleep, until they heard:  "On the morning of the third day, there was thunder, lightning and a thick cloud on the mountain. Then a shofar blast sounded so loudly that all the people in the camp trembled."

To compensate for that failure, and to deepen our walk with G-d, the custom has developed of spending the whole of the night as a vigil in which selected passages from all the Torah are read.  The night of the Tikkun in the non-Messianic synagogues around the city is June 12, Sunday night.  You are encouraged to visit the events in the Jewish community.

Our Tikkun is Sat. night, June 11.

Our Shavuot observance will be the 18 of June.  To participate in the Shavuot worship
